2014 Rotterdam Six Day

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

The 2014 Rotterdam Six Day will take place from the 27th to the 30th November 2013 at Zurich Hallenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Rotterdam Six Day - Day Six

As one could expect the four teams, who has dominated this 6-Days, were still in the same lap when the final 250 lap Madison (50 Km) started at 22,00 hours in the famous AHOY Halle.

And what a final! With four so strong and so equal high-class teams you can really get an explosive finale, where positions changed nearly every minute.

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

But very soon a pattern was established and you can describe it as a fight “three against one”. In the start it was Stroetinga – Mouris, who desperate tried to go on their own, while they off course realised, that they could never reach the other top-teams on points. But later when things got realy serious it was Keisse – Terpstra against “the gang of three” De Ketele – De Buyst, Mørkøv – Rasmussen and Stroetinga – Mouris.

Not because we think they were keen of helping each other, but from pure necessity, because they knew, that if they should break Keisse – Terpstra, they had to do it together.

When the final sprint-series (5 10-laps sprints) started with 50 laps to go, the situation was once again re-established with the four teams together on zero.

Mørkøv won the first sprint ahead of De Ketele and then came very close to the Belgian’s on points. But De Ketele – De Buyst stroke back and won the next two sprints. At that point Keisse – Terpstra realised, that it was too late to win on points, and immediately after the third sprint, with 20 laps to go, Keisse jumped, and it was clear, that it was a “now-or-never” attack, and now it was a pure match between Keisse – Terpstra and De Ketele – De Buyst. Neither the Danes nor Stroetinga – Mouris participated in the pursuit. With seven laps to go Keisse reached the back of the field, and at that point everybody realised, that the game in fact was over. De Ketele – De Buyst were broken and nobody else had the power or the moral anymore, so Keisses victory in the final sprint were pure formality. For the second year in a row the strong Belgian-Dutch combination had won in AHOY, and they were really the masters of this race.

As a prologue to the great final Franco Marvulli got a “Farewell-Victory” at the start of the evening, winning the 100 laps Madison together with partner Tristan Marguet.

It was Franco’s last race in Rotterdam and he will definitively end his splendid career at the end of this season.

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

They won the stage one lap ahead of Czech team Vendolsky – Rugovac (again showing that they might be a better team than the overall-result shows) and two laps ahead of the rest, which means that 2nd team overall, Ackerman – Schneider was four laps down in the end-result. 2014 Rotterdam Six Day - Day Five

It was a little bit of a Danish evening in AHOY on Monday. Danish victory in the 5th stage of the UIV Talents Cup and victory for Mørkøv – Rasmussen in the Elites 200 lap Madison at the end of the program. That chase was really something.

Already after 50 laps everything exploded during a long fight between the three couples Keisse – De Buyst, Mouris – Stroetinga and Bartko – Kalz in attack and Keisse – Terpstra chasing.

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

Nobody cared to help Keisse – Terpstra but still they managed to bring back the three teams. And it continued like that, not only between the top-teams but also on the other levels of the overall. It was to a certain degree like the real final had already begun!

With 50 laps to go the four top-teams were once again equal on zero, but that didn’t satisfy Keisse – Terpstra and De Ketele – De Buyst.

They attacked again and for 20 laps you had teams all over the track. The two teams gained their laps, and it looked like they had created the best possible position before the final on Tuesday.

But the Danes Rasmussen – Mørkøv stroked back together with Mouris – Stroetinga and again it was a status quo ante bellum. But Mouris – Stoetinga, clear behind the other three teams on points, tried one more time to change the situation.

With just 16 laps to go they attacked, hoping for a lap-win, alternatively for the stage-win and some points. But a joint effort from their three rivals brought them back just three laps before the finish and in a cutthroat sprint Alex Rasmussen could beat Niki Terpstra after this 40 Km, which gave the crowd in AHOY and the many watchers on the live stream all what they could ask for!

Thanks to a bonus-lap, De Ketele – De Buyst are in the lead with one lap before the final tonight. But as you can see from the overall, the teams Keisse – Terpstra and Mørkøv – Rasmussen are “technically” even with them. Mouris – Stroetina might also gain a bonus-lap, but they will still be some 100 points behind.

Overall Standings - Main Competition
1 Kenny de Ketele – Jasper de Buyst (BEL), 308 p.,

At One Lap
2 Iljo Keisse (BEL) – Niki Terpstra (NED), 295 p.,

At Twenty-Four Laps

Overall Standings - UIV Talents Cup
A Danish stage-victory for Michel Sandstød – Elias Helleskov Busk was the outcome of the 5th stage of the UIV Talents Cup in Rotterdam.

Nine teams ended up in the same lap but Michel Sandstød (son of former top-rider and present 6-Days organizer in Copenhagen Michael Sandstød) and his partner were the fastest in the sprints.

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

They won the stage with a total of 14 points, while the overall-leaders Pirius – Wotschke came in 2nd with 11 points, despite the fact that they won the last sprint.

But Pirius – Wotschke still has a solid lead before tomorrow’s final stage.

1 Hans Pirius – Sebastian Wotschke (GER), 78 p.,

At Two Laps
2 Pascal Ackerman – Stefan Schneider (GER), 54 p.,
3 Michel Sandstød – Elias Helleskov Busk (DEN), 52 p.,

12 Tobias Wauch – Christopher Imrek (AUT), 0 p.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Rotterdam Six Day - Day Four

Even if it was Sunday in AHOY the pro riders had to do two Madisons, the first of 100 laps and the second 200 laps.

In the first one it was obviously time for reparation for some teams. The big teams were not very enthusiastic and the victory went to Brisse – Hester ahead of the Kreder-cousins.

Seven teams on zero, but none of the four top-teams.

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

The power was saved for the last 200 laps, and with less than 20 laps to go, at a time when one could have imagined that storm was over, with Mouris – Stroetinga one lap ahead and eager to have their flowers, the Danes attacked and went for a lap. Could they do it, so close to the end?

Yes they could and they were now even with the Dutchmen. But Mouris –Stroetinga counter-attacked with 10 laps to go, and that with so great power that you could for a moment believe, that they could go the whole way around and again be one lap ahead.

That wasn’t going to happen, but they secured their victory and their flowers. And that brought us back with four teams all on zero before the last two days of racing in Rotterdam.

Overall Standings - Main Competition
1 Kenny de Ketele – Jasper de Buyst (BEL), 250 p.,
2 Iljo Keisse (BEL) – Niki Terpstra (NED), 243 p.,
3 Michael Mørkøv – Alex Rasmussen (DEN), 222 p.,
4 Jens Mouris – Wim Stroetinga (NED), 156 p.,

At Two Laps
5 Leif Lampater (GER) – Barry Markus (NED), 122 p.,
At Six Laps
6 Yoeri Havik – Nick Stöpler (NED), 133 p.,

At Nine Laps
7 Robert Bartko – Marcel Kalz (GER), 76 p.,

At Ten Laps
8 Franco Marvulli – Tristan Marguet (SUI), 128 p.,

At Twelve Laps
9 Vivien Brisse (FRA) – Marc Hester (DEN), 82 p.,

At Fifteen Laps
10 Theo Bos (NED) – Graeme Brown (AUS), 58 p.,
11 Michel Kreder – Wesley Kreder (NED), 38 p.,
12 Melvin Boskamp – Jesper Asselman (NED), 38 p.,
13 Guy East – Daniel Holloway (USA), 16 p.,

At Eighteen Laps
14 Arno van der Zwet (NED) – Nolan Hoffman (RSA), 50 p.,

At Nineteen Laps
15 Didier Caspers – Melvin van Zijl (NED), 8 p.

Overall Standings - UIV Talents Cup
The Czech team Vendolsky – Rugovac hasn’t been very successful in the UIV Talents Cup in Rotterdam until now. Before the 4th stage to day they were in 12th and last place in the overall, and normally the Czech teams are far better than that in the UIV Cup.

2014 Rotterdam Six Day

On Sunday they showed their real potential and won the stage by a lap. The triple-winners from the first three days Pirius – Wotchke ended 5th on the stage, but that didn’t matter much in the overall, where they are still leading by two laps.

1 Hans Pirius – Sebastian Wotschke (GER), 66 p.,

At Two Laps
2 Pascal Ackerman – Stefan Schneider (GER), 46 p.,
3 Matthias van Beethoven – Lindsay de Vylder (BEL), 36 p.,
4 Michel Sandstød – Elias Helleskov Busk (DEN), 32 p.,
5 Dylan van Zijl (NED) – Giovanni de Merlier (BEL), 20 p.,
6 Jaap de Jong – Lukas Loér (NED), 4 p.,
7 Mitchell Cornelisse – Stefan Kreder (NED), 0 p.,

At Three Laps
8 Manuel Cazzaro – Matteo Moschetti (ITA), 10 p.,
9 Silvan Dietrich – Pascal Dietrich (SUI), 6 p.,

At Five Laps
10 Ondrej Vendolsky – Denis Rugovac (CZE), 20 p.,

At Six Laps
11 John Meeuwisse – Jason van Dalen (NED), 0 p.,
