2013 Ghent Six Day

2013 Ghent Six Day

The 2013 Ghent Six Days/Lotto Z6sdaagse Vlaanderen Gent will take place from the 19th to the 24th November 2013 at Kuipke Velodrome in Ghent, Belgium.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2013 6Lotto Z6sdaagse Vlaanderen Gent - Day Six

It was not a secret that a new track-star has been born in Belgium: Jasper de Buyst, European Champion in U23 Omnium this year and with a lot of success on the road it was only a matter of time before he recorded a huge victory.

In the 4-Days of Grenoble in October he came in third with Iljo Keisse.

In the 6-Days of Ghent he took the lead in the first evening together with experienced German partner Leif Lampater.

We were all impressed but most of us doubted, it would last to the very end. But during the week the duo De Buyst – Lampater defended their leading position with glory.

2013 Ghent Six Day

Until yesterday, when Keisse – Stroentinga took over, and everybody was in agreement that Keisse would win yet another Ghent, however De Buyst and Lampater fought back.

Already after 2nd place in the 500 Meter TT (after Bartko – Kalz) they scored the points necessary to take a bonuslap, which brought them alongside with Keisse – Stroetinga and De Ketele – Van Hoecke.

That was to a certain degree expected, but what really surprises us and impress us is the fact that they could resist the many attacks from Keisse – Stroetinga and De Ketele – Van Hoecke during the one hour final Madison.

Congratulations to Jasper de Buyst, just 20 years of age today 24th of November, and to Leif Lampater, who showed in this race that he was the perfect partner for the youngster and really a 6-Day rider of great international standard!

2013 6Lotto Z6sdaagse Vlaanderen Gent - Day Three

At the beginning of the third night World Scratch Race Champion Martyn Irvine announced he could not continue due to the injuries he sustained on the opening day, this meant his team-mate Marc Hester joined with Franco Marvulli to form a new team.

2013 Ghent Six Day

French World Madison Champions Morgan Kneisky and Vivian Brisse dominated the start of the night however with leaders Jasper De Buyst and Leif Lampater gaining a bonus lap for passing two hundred points they were always going to be hard to beat.

Iljo Keisse and Wim Stroetinga remained in contact with the leaders on the same lap.

The French World Madison Champions Morgan Kneisky and Vivien Brisse are fourth, one lap down.

2013 Ghent Six Day

As expected Franco Marvulli and Marc Hester formed a new team following the abandon of Luke Roberts (Broken Collarbone) and Martyn Irvine (Heavy Bruise), however Irvine is rumoured to be returning later in the week.

De Buyst and Lampater exceeded one hundred points early in the evening so received a bonus lap that prompted frantic attacks by Keisse/Stroetinga as they attempted to draw back level.

The attacks increased as De Ketele/Van Hoecke also gained a bonus lap and Keisse/Stroetinga drew back level to make things interesting in time for Day Three.

2013 6Lotto Z6sdaagse Vlaanderen Gent - Day One

The Belgian-German pair of Jasper De Buyst and Leif Lampater lead the 2013 Ghent Six Day after the opening night in Belgium. The pair have 45 points, three ahead of favourites Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke of Belgium and six points ahead of the Belgian-Dutch team Iljo Keisse and Wim Stroetinga.

De Buyst and Lampater won the Points Race however it was Belgian Champion Moreno De Pauw and Nicky Cocuyt who won the Flying Lap (166m) Time Trial.

The first Madison saw De Ketele and Van Hoecke attack after only eight minutes, the lead changed on numerous times until World Madison Champions Morgan Kneisky and Vivien Brisse of France took the victory from Keisse/Stroetinga and De Buyst/Lampater.

2013 Ghent Six Day

Ireland's Martyn Irvine, the World Scratch Race Champion, ended the night in hospital with a suspected broken leg after a heavy call with team-mate Marc Hester of Denmark.

"When first diagnosed I fear for a fracture of the left femur," said race doctor Walter Jacobs .

Hester was ok to continue and is likely to partner Swizterland's Franco Marvulli who lost his team-mate Luke Roberts of Australia to a suspected broken collarbone.

"I fear that we have lost this rider for the rest of the Six-Day," said Jacobs. "Perhaps the Australian suffered a broken collarbone. He was also taken to hospital for further check."
