2014 Copenhagen Six Day

2014 Copenhagen Six Day

The 2014 Copenhagen Six Day will take place from the 30th January to 4th February 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

--------------------------------------------------------------

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day Six

Did they or didn’t they win that final and decisive lap? That’s the question. With about 20 laps to go the German team Robert Bartko – Marcel Kalz won the lap, who brought them the overall lead, one lap ahead of Rasmussen – Mørkøv and Lampater – Hester, and the capacity-crowd in Ballerup Super Arena realized, that is was over and gone.

No Danish victory in the 52nd 6-Days of Copenhagen, instead the first German victory in 30 years after Thurau – Fritz in 1984!

2014 Copenhagen Six Day

But five laps later Rasmussen – Mørkøv launched what seemed like a desperate last attack, and off course the reaction from the crowd was more than enthusiastic. Could they still do it?

It looked like a “mission impossible” but they came closer and closer and when they entered the final lap they were just 30 meters behind the end of the peloton. And during the last 250 Meters they in fact reached the hindmost riders of the bunch, and that was the situation, when the gun marking the end of the race was fired.

The crowd was happy and the speaker announced the Danish victory!

But no, the commissaries decision was clear: When the bell has been ringed and the riders have entered the final lap, no lap-win can any more be recognized! What a disappointment for the crowd and for Rasmussen – Mørkøv. But after some moments of “reconciliation” the fact was accepted and Robert Bartko (riding his absolutely last race) and Macel Kalz were given there well-deserved applause on the podium.

And that was the end of a very successful 6-Days in the Ballerup Super Arena.

2014 Copenhagen Six Day

An intense, surprising and very well ridden final stage of the Copenhagen UIV Talent Cup saw Danes Busk-Sandstød claim the win.

The stage started when Lander-Linderod attacked within the first minutes of the race and managed to win a lap which meant they were alone in the lead.

Halfway through the race Hjort-Pedersen attacked and soon after Busk-Sandstød followed. When a couple of dramatic and hectic situations occurred in the peloton Busk-Sandstød capitalized and managed to win a lap together with Hjort-Pedersen.

Busk and Sandstød had too many points already to really be challenged by Lander-Linderod and Hjort-Pedersen, so they could focus on Ackermann-Schneider and Hartvig-Pedersen who continuously tried to get away but to no prevail.

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day Five

When the final of the 52nd 6-Days of Copenhagen starts tonight in the Ballerup Super Arena three teams – or even four – will still have the chance to take the victory.

The Monday evening was as also marked by the great battle, the monstrous 75 Km Madison-Handicap, but between the top-teams it did in the end not make much difference.

Most remarkable thing was that Müller - Graf thanks to a bonus-lap now only are one lap behind and thus in principle a potential winner. But with all respect for the clever and skillful Austrians, we still think that it is the team’s Lampater – Hester, Rasmussen – Mørkøv and Bartko – Kalz we shall watch for.

2014 Copenhagen Six Day

Those three teams had their own internal battle and never really participated in the fight for the victory in the handicap. Which of them gave the strongest impression on this second-last evening? Rasmussen – Mørkøv had the strongest finish with an attack during the 10 last of the 300 laps, but they didn’t manage to finish the job and take the lap.

But it was remarkable, that is was only the teams fighting for the victory in the handicap, which made the speed high during the final laps and thus prevented the Danes from taken the laps, not their direct challengers Lampater – Hester and Bartko – Kalz.

And the speed was high during this 75 Km! A new track-record was established with 1:23,1 (average-speed of 54,108 Km/h) and a lot of riders suffered during the 83 Minutes of racing. Around 30 laps before the finish Marcel Barth – Niki Byrgesen attacked solo and took the lap, which brought them alone in the lead of this competition, and despite more attacks from the team Torres – V. Hacecky (who has made a fine performance all five days) they managed to withhold the position.

2014 Copenhagen Six Day

A fine and well-deserved victory for young Niki Byrgesen and for Marcel Barth, once again showing which a fine rider, he is.

In such an event as the 75 Km you can see more different fights within the race. The two “kings” of the UIV Talents Cup Pirius – Wotschke and Van Zijl – Caspers had their own internal battle, won this Monday by the Germans, who thus got even with the Dutchmen in the overall. For Swiss rider Tristan Marguet it was a fight for survival, and we have to say that he was not very much benefit for his partner Mads Christensen on this Monday in Ballerup.

Overall Standings - Main Competition
1 Leif Lampater (GER) – Marc Hester (DEN), 243 p.,
2 Robert Bartko – Marcel Kalz (GER), 236 p.,

At One Lap
3 Alex Rasmussen – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 283 p.,
4 Andreas Müller – Andreas Graf (AUT), 119 p.,

At Three Laps
5 Albert Torres (ESP) – Vojtech Hacecky (CZE), 155 p.,

At Four Laps
6 Wim Stroetinga (NED) – Jesper Mørkøv (DEN), 184 p.,

At Eleven Laps
7 Luke Roberts (AUS) – Nick Stöpler (NED), 80 p.,

At Nineteen Laps
8 Tristan Marguet (SUI) – Mads Christensen (DEN), 153 p.,
9 Marcel Barth (GER) – Niki Byrgesen (DEN), 114 p.,

At Twenty-Two Laps
10 Guy East – Daniel Holloway (USA), 105 p.,

At Twenty-Eight Laps
11 Nico Heβlich (GER) – Simon Bigum (DEN), 105 p.,

At Twenty-Nine Laps
12 Hans Pirius – Sebastian Wotschke (GER), 115 p.,
13 Melvin van Zijl – Didier Caspers (NED), 54 p.,

At Thirty-Two Laps
14 Vivien Brisse (FRA) – Mathias Krigbaum (DEN), 119 p.,

At Thirty-Six Laps
15 Martin Hacecky (CZE) – Achim Burkart (GER), 78 p.

The team Guy East – Daniel Holloway was neutralized due to sickness but will start Tuesday as calculated in the classification of Monday.

On the second last stage of the UIV Talents Cup in Copenhagen, German team Ackermann-Schneider clawed back the lead and also claimed the stage win in the process.

Several teams tried their luck and Italians Serri-Cazzaro came very close to winning a lap but Hartvig-Pedersen took charge of the peloton and chased down the Italians together with a couple of other teams.

Danes Busk-Sandstød tried hard to win a lap but despite their efforts Ackermann-Schneider came out on top after clever riding and Michiels-Schwartz went past them in the general classification and now occupy 3rd place due to finishing higher in the final sprint.

Tomorrow's stage proved to be very interesting as only four points separate the two top teams Ackermann-Schneider and Hartvig-Pedersen.

Overall Standings - UIV Talents Cup
1 Pascal Ackermann – Stefan Schneider (GER), 77 p.,
2 Daniel Hartvig – Casper Pedersen (DEN), 73 p.,
3 Killian Michiels (BEL) – Frederik Schwartz (DEN), 41 p.,
4 Elias Helleskov Busk – Michel Sandstød (DEN), 41 p.,
5 Alexandar Lander – Mathias Linderod (DEN), 26 p.,
6 Philémon Marcel-Millet (FRA) – Maxime Froidevaux (SUI), 22 p.,

8 Mads Hjort – Mathias Pedersen (DEN), 12 p.,

At Eight Laps

2014 Berlin Six Day - Day Four

There are a lot of good traditions in the Copenhagen 6-Days. One of them is that the Sunday-program, sponsored by Post Denmark (since 1994 main-sponsor for Danish cycling) is a tremendous success with a capacity-crowd consisting of kids with parents and grand-parents.

And that was also the case this year. The concept is a nice mix of a cycling-event and a carnival.

2014 Copenhagen Six Day

But the riders off course have to do their job, also on Sunday, and on the program was two Madison’s: The first of 40 Minutes and the second of 100 laps (25 Km).

The first was won by Rasmussen – Mørkøv, but with five other teams in the same lap, and as Lampater – Hester at the same time gained a bonus-lap for passing 200 points, the German-Danish combination took over the lead in the overall with one lap and 205 points, and with Rasmussen – Mørkøv still in 2nd position, one lap behind with 241 points and Bartko- Kalz 3rd, also one lap down and with 182 points. But soon after Bartko – Kalz scored a bonus-lap, relegating the team No. 7 to 3rd place overall.

The final 100 laps didn’t change that fact, while all top-teams ended up in the same lap, with four “out-siders” one lap ahead. The two World Champions (Elite & Junior) Brisse – Krigbaum got a bit of consolation for their mishap during the first days by winning the sprint for the victory ahead of Roberts – Stöpler, Marguet – Christensen and East – Holloway.

Overall Standings - Main Competition
1 Leif Lampater (GER) – Marc Hester (DEN), 217 p.,
2 Robert Bartko – Marcel Kalz (GER), 210 p.,

At One Lap
3 Alex Rasmussen – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 255 p.,

At Two Laps
4 Andreas Müller – Andreas Graf (AUT), 94 p.,

At Three Laps
5 Wim Stroetinga (NED) – Jesper Mørkøv (DEN), 168 p.,

6 Albert Torres (ESP) – Vojtech Hacecky (CZE), 126 p.,

At Seven Laps
7 Luke Roberts (AUS) – Nick Stöpler (NED), 62 p.,

At Fifteen Laps
8 Tristan Marguet (SUI) – Mads Christensen (DEN), 135 p.,

At Sixteen Laps
9 Guy East – Daniel Holloway (USA), 98 p.,

At Seventeen Laps
10 Marcel Barth (GER) – Niki Byrgesen (DEN), 75 p.,

At Twenty-Three Laps
11 Melvin van Zijl – Didier Caspers (NED), 52 p.,

At Twenty-Four Laps
12 Nico Heβlich (GER) – Simon Bigum (DEN), 93 p.,

At Twenty-Five Laps
13 Hans Pirius – Sebastian Wotschke (GER), 80 p.,

At Twenty-Seven Laps
14 Vivien Brisse (FRA) – Mathias Krigbaum (DEN), 104 p.,

At Twenty-Nine Laps
15 Martin Hacecky (CZE) – Achim Burkart (GER), 70 p.

A day of strong riding in the UIV Talents Cup saw Danes Hartvig-Pedersen claim the stage and the lead in a race where Germans Ackermann-Schneider were unlucky and lost half a lap in the final laps of the race due to losing a pedal stroke.

A tight race was controlled in some sense by Danish team Hartvig-Pedersen together with Busk-Sandstød. Michiels-Schwartz also tried to make a difference and moved closer to third position.

Overall Standings - UIV Talents Cup
1 Daniel Hartvig – Casper Pedersen (DEN), 57 p.,
2 Pascal Ackermann – Stefan Schneider (GER), 51 p.,
3 Elias Helleskov Busk – Michel Sandstød (DEN), 36 p.,
4 Killian Michiels (BEL) – Frederik Schwartz (DEN), 30 p.,
5 Jacob Michelsen – Christian Lindquist (DEN), 21 p.,
6 Philémon Marcel-Millet (FRA) – Maxime Froidevaux (SUI), 18 p.,
7 Gianmarco Serri – Manuel Cazzaro (ITA), 17 p.,
8 Alexandar Lander – Mathias Linderod (DEN), 14 p.,
9 Mads Hjort – Mathias Pedersen (DEN), 9 p.,
10 Martin Frank – Anders Fynbo (DEN), 5 p.,
11 Christian Larsen – Andreas Stokbro (DEN), 1 p.,

At One Lap
12 Oliver Almind – Kasper Jørgensen (DEN), 2 p.,
13 Rasmus Roesgarth – Emil Ravnsholdt (DEN), 2 p.,

At Five Laps
14 Steffen Thomsen – Mathias Lindberg (DEN), 1 p.
