    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

The final Six Day event of the 2012/2013 season starts on the 31st January 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark and concludes on the 5th February.

2013 Copenhagen Six Day - Day Six

As foreseen the final battle of the victory in Copenhagen turned out in a dual between the Danish “Team No. 7” Norman – Mørkøv and Roberts – Lampater.

The first Madison of the evening (30 Minutes) was won by Bartko – Hester with six teams on zero, but with neither of the two top-teams! That meant that Roberts- Lampater lost their first big opportunity to take the lap they needed so desperately! Theoretical they might still take a bonus-lap, but they didn’t, because they first passed the 300 points during the final hour, and as all 6-days fans knows: No more bonus-laps when the final chase has started.

Now the only way to the victory was the hard one: Taking a lap from Norman – Mørkøv during the last 60 Minutes. They chose to save their efforts for one big “all or nothing” attack in the last ten minutes, but even if they had support from Müller – Graf, it went out with nothing. Three laps before the finish they had to realize, that is was in vain. In the pursuit it was of course Norman – Mørkøv who had to do the job, but bravely supported by Marvulli – Jesper Mørkøv. They wanted to defend their place on the podium and – as we all know – blood is thicker than water…

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

For 20 year old Lasse Norman is was his first 6-Days win, while Michael Mørkøv achieved his 10th victory in such an event (four of them in Copenhagen as the Danish team No. 7, 2009, 2010 and 2011 with Alex Rasmussen).

For the other Danish top 6-day man Marc Hester the race was a great disappointment due to Robers Bartko’s illness in the start of the race. Their 7th place overall of course not corresponded to their really potential.

A capacity-crowd cheered for the winners, and the new organizer Michael Sandstød with sport-director Jimmi Madsen could proudly receive the compliments for having successfully continued the long 6-Days tradition in the Danish capital.

    Overall Standings
1 Lasse Norman Hansen – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 382 p.,
2 Luke Roberts (AUS) – Leif Lampater (GER), 304 p.,

    at 1 lap:

    4 Andreas Müller – Andreas Graf (Østrig), 195 p.,

    5 Marcel Kalz – Robert Bengsch (GER), 268 p.,

    at 4 laps:

    at 48 laps:
    14 Zachary Kovalcik – Guy East (USA), 124 p.

DNF: 10 Milan Kadlec (CZE) – Benjamin Edmüller (GER).

2013 Copenhagen Six Day - Day Five

The Danish team Lasse Norman – Michael Mørkøv is back on top of the overall of the 6-Days of Copenhagen in Ballerup Super Arena before tonight’s final. Roberts – Lampater is second in the same lap, but with 68 points less.

One of the questions tonight will be if Roberts – Lampater will be able to pass the 300 points before the start of the final and thus gain a bonus lap. When you look at the program it is possible, but they will have to fight hard for it. Alternative they must take a lap from the Danes either in the first 30 Minutes Madison or during the last hour.

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

The Monday evening was as usual in Copenhagen dominated by the big prestigious 75 Km Madison-Handicap, a tradition which to our knowledge today only exists in Copenhagen. Between the two top-teams the 75 Km changed nothing, but it was a fine sporting event which ended up in a finish between Aeschbach – Bigum and Bengsch – Kalz, and in the final sprint the young Danish debutant Simon Bigum could do nothing against the fast Marcel Kalz. It was the second time in a row the Germans won the 75 Km in Copenhagen. The average-speed of the race was close to 52 Km.

    Overall Standings
    1 Lasse Norman – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 325 p.,
2 Luke Roberts (AUS) – Leif Lampater (GER), 257 p.,

    at 1 lap:
3 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Jesper Mørkøv (DEN), 275 p.,
    4 Andreas Müller – Andreas Graf (Østrig), 150 p.,

    at 2 laps:
    5 Marcel Kalz – Robert Bengsch (GER), 208 p.,

    at 3 laps:
6 Robert Bartko (GER) – Marc Hester (DEN), 215 p.,
    7 Vojtech Hacecky – Jiri Hochmann (CZE), 118 p.,

    at 4 laps:
8 Nick Stöpler (NED) – Sebastian Lander (DEN), 172 p.,

    at 6 laps:
9 Marcel Barth (GER) – Mads Christensen (DEN), 126 p.,

    at 19 laps:
10 Milan Kadlec (CZE) – Benjamin Edmüller (GER), 68 p.,

    at 21 laps:
11 Björn Schröder (NED) – Roy Pieters (NED), 137 p.,
12 Tino Thömel (GER) – Nolan Hofman (RSA), 112 p.,
13 Alexander Aeschbach (SUI) – Simon Bigum (DEN), 73 p.,

    at 40 laps:
    14 Zachary Kovalcik – Guy East (USA), 110 p.

2013 Copenhagen Six Day - Day Four

After the fourth day of the Copenhagen 6-Days, the “Family Sunday” with a capacity-crowd, still four teams are (at least on the paper) within the reach of victory.

Roberts and Lampater had no really problems with defending their leading position, one lap ahead of Norman – Mørkøv, Marvulli – J. Mørkøv and Müller – Graf. But the Danish team has 30 points more than Roberts – Lampater on their account which of course is an advantage - in more than one way: It also means that they are “upfront” when it comes to the bonus-laps!

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

As mentioned, four teams are still in the game, but our guess is that the final winner will be found between the team in the white jersey (Roberts – Lampater) ore the flying “Dannebrog” in team No. 7.

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

German Madison-Champion Marcel Kalz is really a fast guy. On the first evening Lasse Norman was fastest on the lap TT (250 Meters) with new track-record 12,603 Sec., but since then Kalz has taken over. On Sunday he was again fastest man on the track – and with another new track-record: 12,587 Sec.

    Overall Standings
1 Luke Roberts (AUS) – Leif Lampater (GER), 244 p.,

    at 1 lap:
    2 Lasse Norman – Michael Mørkøv (DEN), 274 p.,
3 Franco Marvulli (SUI) – Jesper Mørkøv (DEN), 252 p.,
    4 Andreas Müller – Andreas Graf (Østrig), 128 p.,

    at 2 laps:
    5 Vojtech Hacecky – Jiri Hochmann (CZE), 100 p.,

    at 3 laps:
    6 Marcel Kalz – Robert Bengsch (GER), 158 p.,

12 Tino Thömel (GER) – Nolan Hofman (RSA), 91 p.,
13 Alexander Aeschbach (SUI) – Simon Bigum (NED), 53 p.,

    at 31 laps: 14 Zachary Kovalcik – Guy East (USA), 81 p.

2013 Copenhagen Six Day - Day One

1st February 2013: Lasse Norman Hansen, 20 years of age and Denmark’s Olympic Champion on the velodrome in London in august 2012, was the great hit on the first evening of the Copenhagen 6-Days in the Ballerup Super Arena.

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

He and team-mate Michael Mørkøv in the red-white colors of the ”Dannebrog” went away from the very start of the race, took the first lap in the opening madison and won the chase ahead of Roberts – Lampater and Marvulli – Jesper Mørkøv and thus became the first leaders of the 51st 6-Days in Copenhagen.

    2013 Copenhagen Six Day

Furthermore Lasse Norman Hansen established a new track-record on the Lap TT (250 Meters) with 12,603 Sec. (old record: Robert Bartko 12,834 Sec.).

The evening ended with a 30 Minutes Madison, which brought the team Bartko – Hester on level with the other top-teams.
